Should I apply in round 1 or round 2?

Around this time of year many candidates are weighing up whether to apply in round 1 or round 2. The round 1 deadlines are right around the corner, and the pressure is mounting to have everything ready and submitted on time.

But what if you don’t quite feel ready? What if you aren’t convinced that the application you can submit in September really demonstrates your abilities and potential? Maybe you aren’t happy with your test score. Maybe you feel like your essays are a bit rushed, and you haven’t had time to properly reflect on your journey and longer term goals. Maybe you aren’t 100% sure you’re targeting the right schools.

These are all signs that you’re not ready to apply in round 1.

Candidates are often advised to apply in round 1 – more places available and scholarship opportunities are often cited as reasons for getting your application in early. But the key thing to remember is that applying early only serves you well if you are genuinely ready to apply and you’re able to put your best foot forward in round 1. Submitting a lower quality application because you want to hit round 1 isn’t going to work in your favour.

If you feel that you need more time to submit your best application, one that truly reflects your impact, achievement, motivations and what you would bring to an MBA cohort, then round 2 might be for you.
